VIDEO: Bute sets a world record for Stand Up To Cancer

Bute set a new world record on Saturday afternoon as the island continued its enthusiastic support for the UK-wide Stand Up To Cancer campaign.

More than 250 people gathered in Guildford Square in the centre of Rothesay to dance a Gay Gordons, thereby setting a record for the largest ceilidh ever held in a single venue.

Those who took part were asked to bring along a donation of £1, or whatever they could afford, to boost the pot amassed on the island for Stand Up To Cancer - currently standing at almost £3,000 thanks to a bag pack, gunge bath and charity car wash.

The national Stand Up To Cancer campaign raised more than £14.5 million across the UK during the course of an evening’s TV programming on Channel 4 on Friday - keep an eye on this site for news of the running total for Bute following Saturday’s world record!
