Eleven Bute residents carried a message from the Queen as the Commonwealth Games baton relay visited Argyll and Bute on Sunday.
Murray Doyle, Alison Cowan, Sara O’Donnell, Sam Lawrie, Thomas Connor, Kevin Smith, Michael Mitchell, Kirsty Barrett, Robyn Horsburgh, Jenna Speirs and Grace Smith were cheered on by family and friends from the island as the baton made its sun-drenched way through Dunoon.
All were nominated for their years of effort and enthusiasm in the community and sporting sphere on the island: the video above shows all 11 Bute baton-bearers enjoying their moment in the Games spotlight to the full.
The final leg of the relay’s Argyll and Bute visit ended with a spectacular celebration at Dunoon Stadium before the baton continued its journey to the Glasgow 2014 opening ceremony in Inverclyde on Monday.
There’s one more Bute link with the baton relay to come later this week: former Rothesay resident John Gilmour, now living in Largs, will take part in the first leg of the event’s North Ayrshire visit this Tuesday, July 15, when he carries the baton through Skelmorlie.
