Two events are taking place on Bute today (Thursday, April 21) to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

A bonfire will be lit on Scoulag Moor as part of a network of beacons across the UK to mark the occasion - members of the public who would like to attend are asked to park on the roadside on the A844 at the New Farm road end and to be at the moor - a short walk up the farm road - by 8.15pm.

Before that, pupils at North Bute Primary in Port Bannatyne will plant a tree at the site of the former St Ninian’s Church, in the village’s Shore Road, at 2pm, replacing a tree which was blown down in 1992, six years after being planted to mark Her Majesty’s 60th birthday.
