Rothesay ferry passengers have been boarding and disembarking at Wemyss Bay via the car decks of MVs Bute and Argyle due to a power supply problem.

A power failure which has affected Bute travellers at Wemyss Bay ferry terminal should be rectified - at least temporarily - on Thursday.

The passenger gangway at the pier has been out of action since Sunday, forcing foot passengers travelling to and from Rothesay to board and disembark MVs Bute and Argyle via the ships’ car decks.

Bute Community Council member Frank Baxter, who deals with transport matters for the organisation, told its July meeting on Wednesday night that a generator would be arriving on site on Thursday morning and should be operational by lunchtime, supplying power to the gangway, ticket office and linkspan.

Mr Baxter said the root cause of the problem had been identified but that it could take until the end of next week to fix it for good.
