Ferry services across the Kyles of Bute were delayed for a spell on Thursday after a bus became stuck as its driver attempted to drive on to the vessel.

The ‘Grand Tourer’ coach, operated by Shearings and carrying holidaymakers staying at the Glenburn Hotel in Rothesay, had trouble negotiating the combination of the steep slipway at Rhubodach and the vehicle ramp on the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry MV Isle of Cumbrae.

The photograph above was taken by one of the coach’s passengers while the driver and the ferry crew tried to solve the problem, and while queues of vehicles were building up at both Rhubodach and the mainland terminal at Colintraive.

Eventually the vehicle was freed from its predicament and the coach, which had been due to take its passengers on a day trip to Dunoon, returned to Rothesay.

MV Isle of Cumbrae and her crew are currently providing relief cover on the Rhubodach-Colintraive service due to the annual overhaul of the regular ferry, MV Loch Dunvegan.
