Planned engineering work closed the railway line between Wemyss Bay and Glasgow on Sunday - and more disruption, for the same reason, is set to follow over the next few weekends.
Buses will replace trains between Paisley Gilmour Street and Wemyss Bay on the next three Sundays - March 16, 23 and 30 - and also on the weekend of Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6.
Journey times in both directions will be extended as a result - though if the experience of one of The Buteman’s online readers on the first day of the works is any guide, you’d be well advised to allow plenty of extra time for your journey.
Elizabeth Neil sent us a message on Facebook to say that after a “very expensive” night in Glasgow, caused by the cancellation of the Rothesay ferry service due to high winds on Saturday afternoon and evening, she had left Glasgow Central on the 10.50am train on Sunday, but didn’t arrive in Rothesay until 1.35pm.
In between she spent an hour and a half on the replacement bus which, unlike the usual Sunday train service, called at all the stations along the route, its driver having apparently been told not to arrive at Wemyss Bay before 12.30pm.
