CalMac amends proposed Gourock-Rothesay timetable

Wemyss Bay pier is to close for major repairs in early 2015.

Caledonian MacBrayne has altered its proposed timetable for ferry services between Gourock and Rothesay when Wemyss Bay pier closes in the new year for major repairs.

The major change - made after concerns were raised by members of Bute Community Council - is the introduction of an additional, earlier, sailing from Rothesay on a Saturday morning, though a late Friday evening departure from Rothesay has been lost as a result.

The last midweek sailings from both Rothesay and Gourock will also leave slightly later than originally planned, with ferries departing both ports at 1930.

Acknowledging the likelihood of the work continuing into the early summer, there is provision in the new version of the timetable for an extra crossing on Saturday evenings - but only during June.

The Wemyss Bay terminal will close for around four months, from February or early March 2015, for repairs to the pier structure, fendering and linkspan. More detail on the implications of the closure will be available at a public meeting hosted by Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd, owners of Wemyss Bay pier, at the Pavilion cafe in Rothesay on Thursday, December 18 at 7pm.

The new proposed timetable is as follows (all sailings are scheduled to last for 60 minutes):
