Local promoters Transclyde Music kick off another packed year of live music on Bute by welcoming Canadian singer and songwriter Gordie Tentrees to Rothesay this weekend.

With six records and numerous award nominations to his name, not to mention a packed touring programme with up to two hundred concerts each year, Gordie Tentrees’ reputation as a master storyteller and multi-instrumental performer makes him one not to be missed.

In the past he’s toured with the likes of Kelly Joe Phelps, Fred Eaglesmith, Steve Poltz and Mary Gauthier, though for his visit to Bute - where he plays at Craigmore Bowling Club on Saturday, February 6 - he’ll be joined on stage by Jaxon Haldane, who combines tradition and modernism by blending the visceral intensity of punk rock or Dixie land with the soul-stirring emotion of vintage country and blues.

Tickets for Saturday’s gig - which starts at 7.45pm - are £10, and are available from Musicker (01700) 502287, Macqueen’s Butchers of Rothesay (01700) 502067 and on the door (subject to availability).
