The programme of school holiday activities run by local charity Achievement Bute continued this week with two toy-making workshops at the organisation’s Rothesay HQ.
But these weren’t any old toys: these were ‘automata’, non-electronic moving machines made to resemble the actions of humans or animals.
Toy-maker Colleen Magennis led the workshops’ participants through the principles of making an automaton, while the young people taking part came up with some eye-catching designs, including a revolving lighthouse and even a football match!
Achievement Bute’s summer programme continues with a ‘Wee Dens Woodland Adventure Week’ at Mount Stuart from July 22-28, suitable for children in P1-P4 and following on from the Big Dens and Bushcraft Week held earlier this month and featured on this site and in The Buteman’s July 19 edition.
There’s also a Wizard Week at Rothesay Joint Campus from July 5 to 11 and a range of off-island trips - for more information contact Achievement Bute on (01700) 505558.
