Team business challenge to be hosted on Bute

Young people on Bute are being invited to apply for a ‘team business challenge’ for young people aged between 16 and 24, in partnership with Scotland’s Social Enterprise Academy.

‘Wide Horizons’, an enterprise challenge to develop knowledge and skills in social enterprise, will take place over 12 days, in six lots of two days, between March and May.

Aimed at young people who might not have decided what they want to do for a job or career, or who might like the idea of working for themselves or have thought about starting their own business, but aren’t sure how to go about it, the course will teach a range of important transferable skills, from learning how to start a business and creating a business plan to growing confidence and contributing to a team.

The challenge will be delivered on Bute by Fyne Futures, a charity and social enterprise run as a subsidiary of Rothesay-based housing association Fyne Homes.

Fyne Futures’ interim general manager, Reeni Kennedy-Boyle, said: “As a local charity and social enterprise, Fyne Futures is keen to promote training and education, particularly in such skills as may assist people in obtaining paid employment.

“We have been in discussions with Scotland’s Social Enterprise Academy about how we might support young people on Bute during and beyond training placements. As a result we have been offered this exciting opportunity to host the Wide Horizons programme.

“We will be supporting 16–24s in our own organisation to attend the programme, and there is scope to open it up for other young people on the island – up 18 or 20 places.

“It is free to participate - the only commitment is time to attend.”

Completed booking forms should be sent to Graeme@theacademy-ssea.org by Monday, February 11, with formal interviews taking place during the week beginning February 18.

Application forms are available from Fyne Futures - email reeni@tzcb.org.uk - and more information is available from the Scottish Social Enterprise Academy on (01463) 238088.
