Three Stormtroopers from the 501st Legion were the Star (Wars) attraction at a day-long ‘Elements’ science fair in Rothesay on Saturday.

Organised by the Bute Astronomical Club using part of a £25,000 outreach grant from the Scottish Government’s Talking Science initiative, the event also featured parasites, bones, hands-on experiments, a puppet show, animation and even a planetarium - a combination which attracted a large number of families to the venue at the Pavilion.

For many, though, it was the appearance of three members of the 501st Legion - a fan-based group whose members appear in Star Wars costume at events up and down the country in return for a donation to charity - who were the big draw, with the troopers in constant demand for photographs with young and young-at-heart visitors alike.
