Former Rothesay Academy depute head teacher Stewart Shaw has been appointed as the Queen’s new deputy lieutenant for Bute.

Mr Shaw, who also held the posts of assistant and acting head at the Academy, and who finished his 36-year teaching career with five years as head teacher of Dunoon Grammar School, succeeds Lyn Bulloch, who retired earlier this year after ten years in the role.

Mr Shaw said: “Lyn has carried out his duties with great distinction. I wish him well in his retirement from the post and I hope that I will be able to continue supporting the Lieutenancy in the exemplary manner set by him.

“I am sure I will be able to call on him for advice as I embark on my new appointment.”

The appointments have also been announced of Miranda van Lynden as depute lieutenant for the East Lochfyneside area and of Jamie Mellor as vice lord-lieutenant for Argyll and Bute.
