Pupils at St Andrew’s Primary School in Rothesay put down their pencils at 10am on Friday to enjoy juice and delicious cakes as their contribution to the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The total raised for the charity was £167, while just up the road at Rothesay Primary, staff raised £148 for Macmillan by buying more yummy home baking during their mid-morning break.

St Andrew’s head teacher Sandra Maitland said: “We were overwhelmed by the superb efforts of our parents, who donated a huge amount of baking.”

Elsewhere in Rothesay on Friday, the island’s Macmillan fund-raising branch raised £565.90 at their coffee morning at the 292 Club, while Apple Tree Nursery’s efforts weren’t confined to the morning - they stopped for cake and a cuppa after lunch too!
