The Rothesay branch of Slimming World has donated £200 to an island group’s campaign to establish a kidney dialysis unit on Bute.

The Slimming World group - which boasts over 100 members between two classes - raised the funds through their weekly raffle, and made the presentation to Joe Johnstone from Bute Kidney Patients Support Group on Thursday evening in Bute Backpackers.

Joe, himself, is a renal patient from Bute who travels three times a week to Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock for the five-hour life-saving dialysis treatment he needs. The Buteman recently published an interview with Joe about his experiences as a kidney patient and what it would mean to him to have a dialysis unit on the island, which you can read in full here.
