Bute police sergeant Dave Wilkinson is making final preparations for his first half-marathon in 25 years this weekend - the Great North Run through Newcastle, Gateshead and South Shields
Dave, the father of twin daughters, is raising money for local charity Calum’s Cabin, set up to give families with seriously ill children the chance to enjoy some peaceful respite amid Bute’s beautiful scenery.
Calum, himself one of twins, died aged 12 in February 2007, little more than a year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour - but his dying wish was to give other children with life-threatening conditions the chance to enjoy some time on Bute.
Dave has raised £525 so far, but there’s still time to donate before he and daughter Helen set out on the 13.1 mile run this Sunday, September 16.
Dave and Helen will be supported by Dave’s other twin daughter Louise, a sports scientist, trainer and masseuse, and by Dave’s wife Maureen, lending the two runners moral support. Good luck for Sunday!
