Bute could be set for its own version of the hit TV show Dragons’ Den - with start-up help for the young entrepreneur with the best business idea.
The idea comes from the recently-formed Isle of Bute Trust, which plans to launch a competition aimed at the island’s young people.
Exact details for the competition have yet to be hammered out, but the Trust agreed this week that the idea was one worth pursuing in the hope it might encourage a new generation of local entrepreneurs.
The Trust’s treasurer, Iain Donald, who came up with the idea, told the organisation’s most recent meeting: “The competition would be open to anyone under the age of 30 who has completed a further education course in the last two years.
“The idea is that the Trust would provide a grant of £500 to help initiate the best idea.
“The competition could also potentially offer mentoring from volunteers who have experience in business.”
