Scenes from Bute go on show at Moray gallery

An EXHIBITION of paintings from Bute by a former Rothesay Academy art teacher will go on show at the Moray Art Gallery in Findhorn from this weekend.

‘Coastal Scenes’, by Ian McLachlan Scott, features some 20 works in acrylic and features the shores, bays and beaches of the island, as well as wider vistas of the Clyde estuary.

Those familiar with Ian’s paintings will have the chance to revisit his favourite Bute haunts of Ettrick, St Ninian’s and Scarrel.

Ian has now been painting these scenes for some 45 years, and to mark this milestone, and his birthday in April, an exhibition entitled ‘Scotty at Seventy’ will open at Rothesay Library on Saturday, April 13 - the final day of the Findhorn exhibition - and will run until the weekend of the Isle of Bute Jazz Festival in May.

Born in Dunoon and brought up in the village of Clachaig, Ian also taught at Dunoon Grammar and was an adviser in art and design for Tayside Regional Council from 1978 to 1996.
