Former Rothesay Academy pupil Zara Kane has completed her second half marathon - raising an astounding amount of money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Having successfully completed the Inverness Half Marathon on March 17, Zara finished the second half of her challenge - the Edinburgh Half Marathon - on May 26 (Zara’s 22nd birthday) in two hours and six minutes, smashing her personal best by four minutes.

Zara is supporting Prostate Cancer UK in memory of her two grandfathers - Ian Pearson and Michael O’Kane - and has raised a whopping £1245.66 for the national charity.

She told us: “I had been aiming for [completing the half maraton in] under two hours but studies and work had interrupted my training. I ran for part of it with fellow brandane Fiona Ross who was running in aid of Clic Sergeant, she gave me a lot of motivation throughout the run which I am very thankful for.

“I would like to thank Prostate Cancer UK and my family for their support throughout both runs as well as a huge thanks to everyone who has generously donated. I have raised more than enough to fund one weeks research into curing prostate cancer UK.”
