Rothesay pupil launches school librarian petition

Ten secondary school librarian posts will be abolished under Argyll and Bute Council's 2016-17 spending plans.

A petition has been launched by a Rothesay Academy pupil in the hope of saving the school’s librarian from the axe.

S2 pupil Sarah Clapperton set up the petition after Argyll and Bute Council agreed a package of budget savings which includes getting rid of all ten of the area’s secondary school librarians, including the Academy’s Shiona Lawson.

Sarah, 13, started her petition on February 12 and had attracted 75 signatures by taking it round the school before last week’s mid-term break.

“Miss Lawson has done a lot for the school and the community and I really don’t want her to leave,” she said.
