Rothesay playpark opening date announced

Project Playpark's new facility in Rothesay will be opened on Sunday, May 18.

Project Playpark's new facility in Rothesay will be opened on Sunday, May 18.

Rothesay’s brand new playpark will be officially opened later this month, the team behind the project has announced.

A gala opening day for the new facility, behind Rothesay Leisure Centre in the town’s High Street, will take place between 11am and 4pm on Sunday, May 18, with the ribbon-cutting taking place at 2.30pm.

The day will have a fancy dress theme and there will be a Mad Hatter’s Big Hat Parade, with a prize for the day’s most elaborate hat.

Project Playpark, led by island resident Nicola Jones, received a grant of £129,178 from the Big Lottery Fund’s ‘Community Spaces for Scotland’ scheme in March 2013 to develop a new outdoor facility for children on the site, along with fitness equipment for adults.

Work on site began in the early spring of this year, though progress since then has been hampered by poor weather.
