Argyll Community Housing Association has agreed to lease this disused play park in the Ladeside area of Rotehsay to the Light Up Bute community group.

A local community group has been given the green light to take over the running of a long-abandoned play park in the centre of Rothesay.

Argyll Community Housing Association’s board of management has agreed to lease the park at the Ladeside housing development to Light Up Bute.

The group - set up in early 2014 to raise funds for a community fireworks display in Rothesay - hopes to provide family-friendly facilities in a safe environment where a fence prevents children from running out into the nearby road.

Grant Graham from Light Up Bute said: “It’s been lying derelict for a while and kids and parents keep saying they want somewhere to go and play so we approached ACHA with the idea.

“We want to provide something suitable for children with disabilities and also for families, with play equipment, picnic benches and a place for barbecues.”
