Building surveys have revealed Rothesay Pavilion is in a much worse condition than originally thought.

The cost of refurbishing Rothesay Pavilion has jumped by nearly £2 million - and the building is not now likely to re-open to the public until the spring of 2018.

A report prepared for Argyll and Bute Council’s powerful policy and resources committee states that “projected construction costs have risen significantly” after surveys carried out following the building’s closure to the public in September found it was in a much worse state than originally thought.

The additional work identified by those surveys is expected to add as much as £1.9 million to the overall cost of the project, taking the total from £9m to around £11m.
