Caledonian MacBrayne will publish details of its September holiday weekend timetable on the Rothesay-Wemyss Bay route at 5pm today (Thursday).
The company’s spare vessel, MV Isle of Arran, will carry out trials on Thursday afternoon to see whether she fits the berth at Rothesay pier, as an engine problem continues to keep MV Bute, one of the route’s two purpose-built vessels out of service.
The Isle of Arran, launched from Ferguson’s yard in Port Glasgow in 1984, is 84.92 metres long, nearly 15 metres longer than both MV Bute and her sister MV Argyle, and has never previously operated on the Rothesay service.
MV Bute has been out of service since Sunday afternoon and is currently at the James Watt Dock in Greenock awaiting repairs.
Meanwhile an amended timetable continues to operate on the Rothesay-Wemyss Bay route, using MV Argyle as the sole vessel. Departures on Thursday are from Rothesay at 06:25, 08:00, 09:30, 11:00, 13:00, 14:30, 16:00, 17:30 and the last departure at 19:00, and from Wemyss Bay at 07:15, 08:45, 10:15, 12:00, 13:45, 15:15, 16:45, 18:15 and the last departure at 19:45.
The amended timetable, when it is published, will apply on Friday 21, Saturday 22, Sunday 23 and Monday 24 September.
