Bute’s contribution to Armed Forces Day in Scotland took the form of a gala and market in Rothesay’s Guildford Square on Saturday.

The event was organised by the Isle of Bute branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland and was opened by local resident Lyn Bulloch, depute lieutenant of Argyll and Bute.

The market was attended by a variety of island-based businesses, charities and other organisations as well as the local coastguard rescue team, retained firefighters from Rothesay fire station and members of the island’s detachment of the Army Cadet Force.

There was also musical entertainment from Steve Smulski, Beth Swan, Ally Maxwell (a.k.a. Bob Asher) and Ricky Harrison, and even a demonstration of tai chi given by Bob Neeson, who leads a weekly class in the nearby Moat community centre.
