Dementia Awareness Week runs from May 30 to June 5 in Scotland, and this year’s theme is “Let’s challenge dementia together!”

This builds on last year’s theme of “Let’s talk about dementia!” and also links in with Alzheimer Scotland’s Challenge Dementia fundraising campaign.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of dementia, dispel common misconceptions about dementia and raise funds to support Alzheimer Scotland’s work.

A special event is being planned in Rothesay on Thursday, June 2, at the Green Tree Cafe in the Moat Centre from 2-3pm where visitors can enjoy cake and a cup of tea or coffee, and find out more about dementia and the support available to those with the condition as well as their friends and families.

Statistics from Alzheimer Scotland show that 90,000 people in Scotland have some form of dementia, and 76 per cent of people in the country know someone with the condition.
