Rothesay’s entry in the annual Beautiful Scotland competition was assessed by two of the scheme’s volunteer judges on Monday.

Sandy Scott and John MacLennan were given a guided tour by Jessica Herriot and David Rennie from the Bute in Bloom volunteer group, taking in visits to Guildford Square, the new Montague Street garden, the Chapelhill rockery, the Grow Bute allotments, the Esplanade gardens, Bute Produce, Ardencraig Gardens and more.

The judges also met representatives from a wide range of community groups, including Beachwatch Bute, Project Playpark and For Bute during the course of their tour.

“One of the things that struck me really strongly,” Mr Scott said, “was the passion on the island for helping each other, and that’s the whole ethos of Keep Scotland Beautiful.”

This year’s Beautiful Scotland winners will be announced at the scheme’s annual awards ceremony in September.
