WITH little more than three weeks to go until the local council elections, The Buteman is giving island residents the chance to put questions directly to the six people vying for one of the three Bute seats on Argyll and Bute Council.
On Thursday, April 19 at 7.30pm, you’ll have the chance to hear from all six candidates - Len Scoullar (Independent), Robert Macintyre (SNP), Isobel Strong (SNP), Adam Bellshaw (Labour), Hugh Cole (Scottish Christian Party), and Peter Wallace (Conservative) - and find out where they stand on the issues that matter to you.
Admission to the event, which is being held in the church centre at the United Church of Bute (the former High Kirk), in High Street, Rothesay, is free, and there’s no need to submit questions in advance.
Meanwhile, the deadline is looming to make sure you are registered to vote in May 3’s local authority election.
It’s never been easier to register to vote - go to www.aboutmyvote.co.uk to find out more about the ways you can register, reasons why your vote matters and how to place your vote when the polls open.
But don’t delay - the deadline to register in time for May’s election is Wednesday, April 18.
April 18 is also the deadline for the receipt of applications to vote by post in the May 3 poll. You can download and print off an application form for a postal vote from www.argyll-bute.gov.uk, or contact the Electoral Registration Office on Freephone 0800 980 0470 to have one sent out to you.
The completed form must be returned to the Electoral Registration Office, Kilbrannan House, Bolgam Street, Campbeltown PA28 6HZ.
