Members of the Port Bannatyne branch of the Scottish Women’s Institute gathered at the Victoria Hotel in Rothesay this week to celebrate the branch’s 85th birthday.

Among the guests present to mark the occasion was Meg Young, president of the SWI’s Ballianlay branch.

The two remaining Bute branches are both part of what used to be known as the ‘Scottish Women’s Rural Institute’ - or ‘the Rural’ for short - though the organisation changed its name earlier this year, 98 years after it was formed, in an attempt to attract new members from a wider range of backgrounds.
