Over 20 fixed penalty notices have been issued within the last month by Bute police officers, in response to a national operation on roads policing.

Constable Mark Smith told councillors at Bute Community Council’s June meeting on Wednesday evening that four drivers have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for careless driving, and that a number of motorists have been reported for speeding offences.

In addition, Constable Smith said that a number of misuse of drugs cases had been detected, including one of possession with intent to supply.

Community councillor Mike Blair told Constable Smith that he was concerned over the number of cars parked on pavements, which may force wheelchair users or mothers with prams onto the road.

Constable Smith replied that they have received some complaints regarding this, and that fixed penalty notices are issued if the vehicle is causing an obstruction, or is deemed to be a potential obstruction.
