More than a dozen organisations from Bute and beyond were present at a ‘Get Ready for Winter’ information day at Rothesay Pavilion this week.

The event was organised by Bute Advice Centre and the Argyll, Lomond and the Islands Energy Agency (ALIenergy) to provide advice to Bute residents in a wide range of areas such as fire safety, home energy, health and care for the elderly.

Bute Community Council was also present, signing up visitors to the event who might be willing to act as volunteers in the event of the island’s emergency plan having to be brought into action as a result of a power cut or other type of winter emergency.

The event was also attended by Joe McAleer from BCA Insulation, the contractor appointed to the Argyll and Bute arm of HEEPSABS, the Scottish Govermnent’s home energy efficiency programme, which is being administered by ALIenergy.

Other organisations present at the event included Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, Fyne Homes, Careplus, Bield Housing Association, Waverley Care, the Bute Kidney Patients Support Group and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
