In our latest trip down memory lane, we leave the familiar surroundings of Bute far behind and travel almost a thousand miles south, to the snow-covered slopes of the Italian Alps.

The scene in this picture is the Passo del Tonale, the date is April 1980 and, courtesy of reader Iain L. MacLeod, the subjects are the pupils and staff of Rothesay Academy, for whom the ski slopes of northern Italy were a favoured destination for four ski trips between 1979 and 1983.

Iain, part of the Academy staff team on each of these Alpine adventures, has kindly shared his memories - and part of the extensive collection of slide photographs he took on the four trips - in the 2014 edition of The Buteman’s sister title, Back In The Day, which will be on sale in shops around Bute in the next few days.

So if you were part of the Academy’s Italian skiing expeditions around that time - and, having seen the pictures, we know there are more than a few familiar faces featured! - don’t miss out on your copy, priced just £1.50.

(Alternatively, of course, you may wish to hide under the bed to avoid embarrassment...)
