Island charity For Bute has announced that it will not be taking on the lease of the tearoom at Ardencraig Gardens in Rothesay for a second summer.

The ‘Potting Shed Tea and Coffee Empoprium’ [sic] proved a big hit when the doors were opened in April 2014, and the income from the volunteer-staffed tearoom provided a welcome boost to For Bute’s efforts to raise money for good causes on the island through its second-hand shop in the town’s Victoria Street.

Marlene Hill from For Bute said: “We’re very sorry that we can’t open the tearoom again this year. Unfortunately we just can’t get enough volunteers to staff the shop and to keep regular opening hours at the tearoom - the hassle is just too much.”

Argyll and Bute Council, owners of Ardencraig Gardens, is advertising for offers of rent for the tearoom building for the coming summer.

The opening hours of For Bute’s Victoria Street shop will not be affected by the Ardencraig news.
