A charity designed to offer support to people battling alcohol and drug abuse issues has reported a positive launch of its services to clients in Argyll and Bute.

Addaction has, in the first ten days since it took over alcohol and drug recovery services in the area, been in contact with 60 people in need of help in Dunoon, Oban, Campbeltown and Bute.

In the first week five Bute residents were provided with assistance by the charity.

Director of Operations, Addaction Scotland, Andrew Horne said: “We are an Argyll-wide service with an administrative office in Dunoon. Service users’ needs come first with us. To support those needs we will be active throughout the area and are happy to see people wherever they choose.”

“We are extremely pleased with our progress so far. Addaction has set up over 20 services in the last ten years but few have received the number of referrals that we have had in Argyll and Bute. There is definitely a pressing and urgent need here and we are happy to meet it.”
