Elaine Garman from Rothesay has been ordained as a deacon in the Scottish Episcopal Church.

The ordination ceremony for Mrs Garman, who will serve in the charge of Cowal and Bute, covering St Paul’s Church in Rothesay and Holy Trinity in Dunoon, was held at St John’s Cathedral in Oban.

Mrs Garman, who is a public health specialist with NHS Highland, was one of two new deacons ordained by the Rt Rev Kevin Pearson, Bishop of Argyll and the Isles, in Saturday’s ceremony: the other, Rosemary Bungard, will serve in the charge on the Isle of Skye.

Her new role will see her carrying out pastoral duties and leading worship in Rothesay and Dunoon churches as she continues into the next phase of ministerial training, with the guidance of Dean Andrew Swift, the Rector of the churches.
