Rothesay's first 'community run' event - with walkers and joggers also welcome - has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 13.

Islanders dusting off their training shoes and preparing for the ‘New Year Resolution Run’ mentioned on this site a few days ago now have more time to get ready for the event.

The Rothesay community sport hub, which is organising the day, has decided to change the date from Sunday, January 24 to Sunday, March 13, in order to give more time to put the details of the event together.

The run - for which walkers and joggers are also welcome! - will start and finish at Bute Shinty Club and follow a circular route around the Meadows, Lovers’ Walk, the avenue of trees next to Rothesay Leisure Centre, the Public Park and the pony park on Meadows Road - with participants able to opt for a distance and pace of their choosing, from one 1km circuit to five.

As well as encouraging island residents to get fitter, the event will also raise money for the Dialysis Unit for Bute campaign, launched in October by the Bute Kidney Patients’ Support Group - and will provide an opportunity for local sports clubs and other groups involved in health, fitness and wellbeing to showcase what they offer.

Fliers promoting the event, with sponsor forms, will be available soon - watch this space for more details!
