Argyll and Bute MSP Michael Russell says he’s “horrified” at statistics which show an increase in usage of Bute’s food bank.

According to figures released this week by Bute Advice Centre, which runs the food bank service, 50 people used the facility in the three months between April 1 and June 30 - up from 38 in the three months from January to March.

Mr Russell said: “Whilst I am very supportive of the excellent work done by the food bank, without which people would actually starve, I am horrified that usage continues to rise.

“It is a terrible indictment of the country in which we now live that food banks are required to ensure that children have something to eat and adults are able to provide for their families.”
