Dundee FC midfielder and former Rothesay Academy pupil Jim McAlister found himself in the firing line on Wednesday - in the form of a radio interview with a present-day Academy pupil.

Thomas Howat, from Port Bannatyne, arranged and conducted the interview with Jim on the online airwaves of local internet station Radio Bute.

Jim, who won a clutch of player-of-the-year awards from the Dens Park club’s supporters earlier this summer in recognition of his efforts during 2012-13, spoke about his early football education, the inspiration provided by his father, Jim senior, and his coach and mentor, Jim Ross, and his professional career with Morton, Hamilton Accies and now Dundee.

Asked by Thomas if he had any advice for today’s young players, Jim said simply: “Train hard, and enjoy your football.”
