Friends, family and colleagues gathered on Saturday night at Rothesay Bowling Club for the presentation of the Long Service and Good Conduct medal to retained fire-fighter Jim Gilchrist.

Jim joined the service on October 1, 1992, and Roddie Shaw - Scottish Fire and Rescue’s senior officer on Bute - stated that in all the years since then he has remained the same reliable and dependable man, attending a large number of major incidents and always being found in the thick of it.

Jim is the 33rd Bute fire-fighter to receive the medal, which Group Commander David Cowley – who was in attendance to present Jim with the medal – stated spoke of the dedication of Jim and his colleagues.

Upon being presented with the medal, Jim took the opportunity to thank his friends and family, in particular his wife Anne, his fellow Bute fire-fighters and all those who had contributed to the evening.

With the formal part of the evening over, everyone was able to enjoy a delicious buffet and have a dance with music provided by Bute Ceilidh Band.
