Weather: advance gale warning for Wednesday, January 30

The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning of high winds across large parts of Scotland, including Argyll and Bute, for Wednesday, January 30.

A spell of very windy weather, with gales and severe gales in places, is expected to spread across Scotland during Tuesday night and early on Wednesday.

Winds inland will be strongest through the central lowlands during the early morning, with gusts of up to 60-70mph, but will gradually ease from the west. Gusts as high as 80mph are possible in exposed parts of the north and west.

The public should be aware of the need to take extra care and of the potential for disruption, particularly to travel.

The warning is valid from 0005hrs to 1500hrs on Wednesday, January 30.
