VisitBute in fresh appeal for new blood

Bute's spectacular scenery is familiar to those who live on the island and to its regular visitors - but VisitBute, the island's tourism and marketing organisation, is looking for new blood to help with its work selling those attributes to a wider audience.

A fresh appeal has been made for new people to join Bute’s tourism and marketing organisation this week.

Sophie Reid, one of three directors of VisitBute, said the organisation was especially keen for accommodation providers on the island to join its board.

Mrs Reid spoke to The Buteman ahead of an event in Rothesay later this month to launch the revamped VisitBute website, which was taken back under local control towards the end of 2012.

“At the moment we don’t have any local hoteliers or accommodation providers on the board,” Mrs Reid said. “We only have three directors - myself and Barbara Lynn, who both have businesses to run, and James McMillan, who is busy managing the Pavilion.

“We really need people who have the experience to help back up our ideas to come and join us.”

The website launch event takes place on Wednesday, January 29 at the United Church of Bute’s church centre in High Street, Rothesay.

The event starts at 7pm and is open to VisitBute members and non-members alike.
