‘Very serious injuries’ in road crash near Rothesay

Police are appealing for information after a serious accident on a rural road just outside Rothesay on Wednesday evening.

Several local people received “very serious injuries” as a result of the crash, which occurred on the B881 near Lochend at around 10pm.

Inspector Gordon Anderson from Rothesay police office said: “A road crash occurred at approximately 10pm on Wednesday 12th September involving members of our community on a rural road and very serious injuries were sustained.

“Enquiries are continuing in relation to the crash and anyone who has information please contact Rothesay police office.”

Inspector Anderson said police would continue to deploy high visibility patrols “with the intention of impacting on the serious injury collisions that occur on our roads”.

Seven out of ten fatal road accidents, and more than half of all serious injuries sustained in Scotland, occur on rural roads.

“Police officers will continue to address inappropriate road user behaviour,” Inspector Anderson continued, “and the focus on speeding will be maintained.

“Particular attention will be given to known prominent crash routes and locations. Officers will continue to influence driver behaviour, particularly within vulnerable groups such as motorcyclists and young drivers.

“The recent multi-agency Real Time Crash Scenario which took place at Rothesay Joint Campus during the summer highlighted the dangers and consequences of serious injury collisions that occur on our roads.

“As winter approaches with the onset of shorter daylight hours, lower temperatures and hazardous road surfaces, this potentially brings about increased dangers to the travelling public and all road users are urged to drive at the appropriate speed for the conditions.”
