‘Taste of Bute’ shuts up shop
THE Taste of Bute operation located at Plan Farm at the south end of Bute has ceased trading, with the loss of three jobs.
Owners Brian and Janet Hill said the decision had been taken because of the potential impact of Taste of Bute on their day-to-day farming business.
The Taste of Bute brand was set up by the Hills in 1999 with a view to marketing their premium beef and lamb products.
In 2008-09 the operation developed into the creation and sale of smoked meat, fish and cheese, and three additional staff were taken on in 2010 and 2011 to help run the expanded business.
“We always said we would never let Taste of Bute impinge upon our core farming business,” Mr Hill told The Buteman.
“All the Taste of Bute products have been highly successful, but we have come to realise the limitations they have put on us – we just haven’t got a life at the moment.
“We made it known that Taste of Bute was available, and we’ve archived all our recipes so that if we decide to pick it up and run with it again we can do so.
“It’s a shame to see it go, but we’ve learned a tremendous amount.”
