Still Game star Greg Hemphill has sung the praises of Bute after a family holiday on the island.

Greg, best known for playing Victor McDade in the hit TV comedy series, and his family visited Bute to celebrate the 70th birthday of Greg’s mum Anne, who holidayed in Port Bannatyne as a child.

“We’ve had the best week ever,” Greg told The Buteman. “The people have been so friendly everywhere we’ve gone.

“We’ve been horse-riding, we’ve been to Mount Stuart, we’ve been fishing, we’ve been to Scalpsie and Ettrick Bay and we’ve had a couple of boozy nights at the Kingarth Hotel.

“The weather’s been amazing, but the hospitality has been the thing that’s jumped out at us all.

“Everybody knows the demographics of going on holiday have changed, but there’s a lot to be said for taking a holiday in a place like this.

“Flying overseas is becoming more and more of a pain, but Bute is right on the doorstep of a lot of people, and it’s fantastic.”
