Science centre team to hold event in Rothesay

The team behind plans for a science centre at Meikle Kilmory on the west side of Bute are organising a day-long science event next weekend.

‘Elements’, taking place at Rothesay Pavilion on Saturday, January 19, is the first event to be held since the Bute Conservation Trust received a £25,000 grant from the Scottish Government’s ‘Talking Science’ programme last year for a community science outreach programme - not just on Bute but throughout the west of Scotland.

The January 19 event will include the chance to find out more about parasites (both tropical and local), an ‘inner life’ drawing class, a puppet show, a ‘Fit Lab’ workshop courtesy of Glasgow Science Centre, animation classes and even an indoor planetarium - plus the chance to take part in a live ‘stargazing’ event at Ettrick Bay later that evening.

The science centre is part of a wider project which would see Meikle Kilmory, a former farm with views over the Sound of Bute to Inchmarnock, west Cowal and Kintyre, transformed into a heritage and education facility with demonstration areas, shops, cafes, a living farm, play areas, nature trails and bunkhouse sleeping facilities.
