The dates of Bute schools’ in-service days for 2013-14 have been changed to allow the island’s pupils to attend this year’s Bute Agricultural Society show.

The dates were changed after it was noticed that the first day of the new school year on the island - Wednesday, August 14 - clashed with the show, which always takes place on the second Wednesday in August.

But members of Argyll and Bute Council’s Bute and Cowal area committee, which sets the school holiday dates for the area, agreed to move one of the year’s in-service days from November 14 to August 14, allowing pupils to attend and take part in the event.

The change was made in a motion proposed by one Bute councillor, independent Len Scoullar, and seconded by another, the SNP’s Isobel Strong.
