Rothesay singer set for Open Mic regional finals
Aimee Gilmour, seen here at a fund-raiser for Radio Bute on November 17, will sing at the Open Mic UK area final for Scotland and the north of England in Dewsbury this Saturday.
A former pupil at Rothesay Academy is making final preparations for her appearance in the regional finals of the Open Mic UK competition this weekend.
Aimee Gilmour, who performs as Aimee Scarlett, qualified for the Scotland and north of England area final of the competition after impressing judges at the Scottish regional finals in Glasgow last month.
Aimee, now studying beauty at James Watt College in Greenock, warmed up for her Open Mic slot by performing at a fund-raiser for local internet radio station Radio Bute last Saturday, where her set included covers of songs originally recorded by Amy Winehouse, Paolo Nutini and Etta James.
The best performers in this Saturday’s area finals, taking place at Dewsbury Town Hall in West Yorkshire, will go through to the Open Mic grand finals, to be held on Saturday, January 19 at Indig02, within the O2 Arena in London (formerly the Millennium Dome) and also featuring performances from guest acts and a line-up of celebrity guest judges.
