Rothesay Primary Pupils at the Marble Chapel at Mount Stuart - home to Nina Danino's film Communion, one of four works in this year's contrbiution to the Contemporary Visual Arts programme run by the Mount Stuart Trust.

Pupils from Rothesay Primary School visited Mount Stuart this week to cast their eye over the four installations in the house’s annual Contemporary Visual Arts Programme.

In partnership with local charity Achievement Bute, the pupils gave their verdicts on film works by Ian Bourn, Nina Danino and Gill Clarke and Lucy Skaer, and sculpture and paper works by Kate Davis.

The four pieces have been on display to visitors to Mount Stuart since June, and will remain on show until the 2012 season closes at the end of October - but the pupils went in ‘blind’, with no prior knowledge of the works or the artists, before splitting into smaller groups to examine the four pieces in more detail.

And they weren’t obliged to say nice things either - opinions given included “spooky”, “dull”, “a puzzle”, “surprising” and “scary”.

We won’t tell you which verdicts applied to which exhibits though - you’ll just have to visit Mount Stuart to see the works for yourself!
