Rothesay pupils dip their toe in the world of politics
Pupils from Rothesay Primary make their pitch for votes during a mock election held as part of a visit to the school by a Scottish Parliament outreach officer.
Pupils from Rothesay Joint Campus got an introduction to politics this week thanks to a visit to the school by Scottish Parliament outreach officer Mairead MacKechnie.
The pupils, from P7 at Rothesay Primary and S1 at Rothesay Academy, participated in an exciting debate, complete with presiding officer, putting into practice what they had been learning about the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament.
They were guided through an interesting presentation, taking part by answering questions via their individual voting consoles. Ballot papers were used in a mock election, where pupils had to compile their own manifesto, nominate a party leader and participate in the election process in their own classroom.
