Rothesay pupil launches Scottish Youth Parliament election bid

Rothesay Academy pupil David McLaughlin is standing for election to the Scottish Youth Parliament - and he needs the votes of Bute’s young people to get there!

David, 17, is one of four candidates for two seats representing Argyll and Bute at the Scottish Youth Parliament elections.

His manifesto contains five pledges: to get local alcohol taxes put back into youth projects in Argyll and Bute, to introduce student fares on CalMac ferries, to improve educational access throughout Scotland, to increase the activities available to young people in Argyll and Bute, and to re-open the tennis courts in Rothesay.

David has chaired the Academy’s Spirit Aid committee, helping raise funds for the charity, which supports communities in Malawi to feed themselves and provide crèches for education, and is also the chairperson of the Bute Youth Forum, which is currently working on a youth holiday activity programme.

In Argyll and Bute, anyone aged 12 to 25 can vote. Voting is easy and is done using your Young Scot Card between today (Monday, March 4) and Friday, March 15.

Simply type in your card number at the Young Scot website (click on the link to the right of this article) and the system will count all the votes according to Single Transferable Vote (STV).

The three successful MSYPs will be announced on the evening of Friday, March 14.

If you have any problems, or do not have a Young Scot Card, please contact Roanna on youngscot@argyll-bute.gov.uk or phone 01546 604752.
