Rothesay Primary paper boat launch is postponed
Plans to launch paper boats made by children from Rothesay Primary on the River Clyde in Glasgow on Hogmanay were called off by bad weather.
The boats made in Rothesay, featured in our November 9 issue, were part of a flotilla made by schoolchildren from throughout the west of Scotland in tribute to artist and sculptor George Wyllie, who died in May 2012 at the age of 90, and were inspired by Mr Wyllie’s 1990 work The Paper Boat, a life-size sculpture which was exhibited on the Clyde, the Thames and the Hudson River in New York.
Organisers said heavy rain had made the planned launch from the city’s new Riverside Museum, on what would have been Mr Wyllie’s 91st birthday, unsafe; it is hoped to reorganise the event in the spring.
